We use map products referred to as Isoscapes to predict the geographical origins of organisms and food products.

A unique product from IsoForensics is the combination of stable isotope analyses, isotope models, databases, and geographic information system modelingto create maps of how stable isotopes vary across geographic landscapes. These models become useful for then predicting where samples in hand had originated from.
Here you see the isotope map for human hair for individuals living in different parts of the country to provide you with an idea of the magnitude of geographic variation. Our analytical resolving capacity is ±0.2 per mil.

One of our products are GIS maps that
describe the predicted region of origin of the biological material or
water of interest. These maps are used to predict the possible
regions-of-origin for a material, food product, or organism. They are
built on mathematical models we have developed and are verified with
isotope ratio values from authentic specimens in our databases. Here we
see the predicted region-of-origin for an unknown milk sample that was
later determined to have originated from central Indiana.
